As a teenager, Jonas and I attended Camp Ramah .  We are also both graduates of Akiba Hebrew Academy.  Jonas was an intelligent, charismatic and caring person.  He was a great source of comfort to me on recent losses of family. members. He will be missed!

One of the great privileges of my life was spending time almost on a daily basis with Rabbi Goldberg  during his tenure at Cong. Beth-el in Norwalk, CT.  Rabbi Goldberg had all the attributes we hope to find in a Rabbi. He was among the kindest and most consistently  caring individuals I’ve ever met. We enjoyed many discussions together with other Congregants that sometimes carried into the kitchen table of the home where Rabbi Goldberg  and Shelly lived. Rabbi Goldberg had a very deep knowledge of Judaism in all of its facets that he was always willing to share with us.  And had the wonderful facility of not pushing his own views forward always willing to encourage discussion. Even after many years together I never really knew his “politics”. They were kept close to vest. And had an especially deep love for Israel.  All told Rabbi Goldberg was a born to be a Rabbi. He was our Rabbi. Forever. And will always be cherished. 

My husband Steve I met Jonas and Chelly doing Marriage Encounter weekends together and we maintained a long and caring friendship for many years, tho we have not seen them in a few years.  Jonas's warm smile made me feel accepted and appreciated always and he will be missed by many.  He and Chelly affected many marriages and their sharing was honest and deep.  Rest in Peace, Jonas.  You deserve it.

Yona, as he was known back then, was one of my counselors at Ramah in the Poconos - 1958 as best as I can recall the date.  He was a real mensch of counselor and yet a fun one.  Although it is too long ago for me to remember a particular anecdote, I can relate that he was a good counselor, mentor and role model for us campers.   Moreover, when my father died, he was kind enough to send an email on Ravsak to inform the Jewish Day School Community of his death - a real act of menschlichite.

Jonas will be missed by so many. He was a true mensch and such a kind and caring person. He went out of his way to make those he encountered  feel welcomed. He was always there for people and I had the opportunity to see that first hand when it came to being there for my family. I will miss him dearly and am thinking of Shelly and family at this time and sending hugs and prayers to you all. RIP Jonas. xoxoxo

Rav Goldberg was my counselor at Camp Ramah Poconos in 1958.
He was more than just our counselor. Jonas or Yona as I recall, was an excellent teacher and was able to focus the attention of 13 year old boys on the essence of Jewish values.
I remember Jonas always having a large clump of keys fastened to his belt.
I remember seeing Jonas talking and walking to his girl friend, Chelly! 
Regrettably, I lost contact with Jonas, however, we were re-united as I organized a 1950s Ramah re-union, held in Philadelphia, July 2010.  Although Jonas did not attend the re-union, we established a friendship through emails and Facebook postings.
