Born in Gilmer County, WV on January 15, 1926, he lived to be 93 years old. He grew up helping farm the land of his parents Asa E. Bailey Sr. & Edna L. Holbert Bailey of Weston, WV formally of Glenville, WV who preceded him in death as did his 2 brothers, Floyd and Roy Bailey and sisters, Cella Copeland, Phyllis Halfhill and twin sister Mary Stout.
He was married to Glenna Layrue Heckert Bailey for 67 years who preceded him in death in
2013. He is survived by his two children, daughter Shirley E. Bailey Davis and son Everett O.
Bailey both of Williamsburg, VA. Mr. Bailey had 4 grandchildren, Jeffrey Davis of Williamsburg,
VA; Kristine Davis Weatherly of Santa Clarita, CA; Julie Davis Hessian of Port St. Lucie, FL; and
Jason Davis of Palm Bay, FL. Great grandchildren include Kayla Davis of Dacula, GA; Caden,
Logan and Ethan Weatherly of Santa Clarita, CA; Hunter Hessian of Port St. Lucie, FL and
Danielka Davis of Palm Bay, FL.
Mr. Bailey graduated from Tanner High School and proudly served his country in the United
States Army during World War II as an MP at Camp Shelby, Mississippi POW Camp. He was
honorably discharged on December 22,1945.
He was employed with The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company for 25 years starting at
Weston A&P in 1946 and subsequently working as manager. He served as manager of
Glenville and Marlinton, WV A&P stores as well. During his career in the grocery business he
also worked for Go Mart in Glenville, WV; Farm Fresh and 7-11 in Poquoson, VA and Food Lion
in Grafton, VA. He was a farmer in his spare time and was always ready to have a “Budweiser”
with family and friends.
He will be honored with a graveside military tribute which is planned for late summer 2019 at
Stalnaker Cemetery in Glenville, WV. His ashes will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife
Glenna. He will be remembered as a man who would lend a helping hand to anyone and one
who loved his family above all else.
He will be greatly missed.
