I remember Mike as being a loving and caring  husband. We would go on  long rides on the days he was off with "our family" the dogs we have. He would always stop at rest areas not only for the dogs but also he needed his cigarette or two.  We found that it was relaxing to go to softball  games  in Cottage Grove and Hastings and watch  familiar players we would see each week and year,of course the dogs were with. I loved all the time we were together with his friends from High School.  Racing remote cars and flying his airplanes.   He will be dearly missed by me and his extended family, the pets 

So many memories of Michael. When Marv & I first married we lived in his folks basement - I was home with baby Windy and would hang out with Michael some afternoons while he was on summer vacation from high school. We motorcycled with Debbie and Michael for a few years - I was always kind of glad Michael smoked or Marv never wanted to take a break! But we needed the smoke breaks. Then there were some years where Michael and Debbie golfed Sunday mornings with Marv and our brother in law, Neil Diamond. Good times at our lake home, my in-laws lake home - card games - Michael always made us laugh. Had a really nice time when their cousin, Karen Ferin, lent us her Florida home and we all went down with Kathryn and Arlie while they were still with us. I'm just so very sad Michael is no longer with us. 

I NEVER saw a time Michael wasn't smiling  or a time he was not with my sister Debbie.  He always had a great attitude , was a great listener, and loved Debbie, his dogs and his family. He provided my sister with a comfortable, loving life.  IF you played cards with him, he usually won.  He had an uncanny ability to remember what cards had been played and he could usually predict what cards you had in your hand. He and my sister ALWAYS had their dogs with them. Some people talk about loving their animals but Mike and Debbie lived that life.  IF we went out to eat we had to sit by a window so that Mike could keep an eye on his "kids".  He, by remote,  would turn on the heater in the winter and air conditioner in summer for them.  He always walked out with a treat for his pups too.  They knew that and were so excited when they saw him. Mike loved my sister and we loved him. 

Memorial Service

Michael was preceded in death by Parents, Arlie and Kathryn Smith.

He is survived by Wife, Debra; Brothers, Marvin (Michele) Smith and Russell (Lynda) Smith; Sisters-In-Law, Nancy (Ron) Cleveland, Janice (Larry) Haywood, and Patty (Gregg) Masiaszek.
