Patricia J. Merkel, 80, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019 in West Orange, NJ. Patricia worked for many years as an Administrative Assistant for Fed-Ex, before her retirement. She was a passionate supporter for animal rights, a believer of holistic medicine, and a devoted vegetarian. She was also a friend of Bill, as well as a member of The Compassionate Friends. Patti volunteered at several animal shelters in the area for many years.
Patricia was predeceased by her parents, John and Elizabeth Lyons, her daughter, Joan Merkel, and her brother John C. Lyons. She is survived by her loving son, Jeffrey Merkel (Sandra Calderone); granddaughter, Breanna Merkel-Newell; sister Barbara Lyons; brother Paul Lyons (Jackie Jones); nephews Corey, Jesse and Devin Lyons, dearest Aunt Ruthe Stanley, as well as numerous extended family members, friends and colleagues.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 4 from 2-6 PM at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston. Funeral service will be held at 5:30 PM at the funeral home. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Compassionate Friends-Essex County Chapter 28 Brookline Avenue, Nutley New Jersey 07110.
