Dr. Romero will always be dearly remembered. Such a wonderful physician and colleague, and an extremely KIND gentleman with a positive personality and a soothing SMILE.

Carlos fue mi compañero de jardín de infantes en el Colegio Normal Rita Lecumberri  –donde nuestras mamás fueron compañeras– y luego de escuela, colegio y universidad.  
Fue un pesar muy grande para mi saber de su fallecimiento, pero el legado que deja, en algo resumido en las expresiones de sus amigos y colaboradores, es un testimonio de una vida bien vivida, desgranada en servicio y ayuda a otros, todo hecho con dedicación, honestidad y alegría.
Espero que Cecilia y sus hijos, a quienes manifiesto mi más sentido pésame, encuentren solaz en el pasado de su esposo y padre, y que Carlos descanse en la paz del Señor.

Una sonrisa pura y constante, generosa, siempre ahí, dibujada en su cara.  Que maravilloso hombre, dador de muchas esperanzas y valentía a los que la necesitaron en los momentos más difíciles y a todos sus amigos y los que pudimos conocerlo de alguna manera.  Eso es invaluable.   Mi muy sentido pésame a su familia y amigos, en especial a su esposa, hijos y JE Pernigotti su gran amigo. 

Dr. Romero the kind man with an easy smile. He would light up the room wherever he went. He’ll be sorely missed. We all need people like him in our lives.

I had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Carlos Romero for several decades, both as a friend and colleague in the Consular Corps of Houston.

Carlos was a true friend, always had a kind word to say, and was always with his lovely wife Cecilia.  

We shared many common interests including his home country of Ecuador, which I had visited on a number of occasions including the times I travelled there to climb some of the highest peaks in the Andes.

Carlos was a great professional and doctor, and a better husband, father, and friend.  

He will be deeply missed!


Dr. Carlos Romero was a faithful supporter of the Taize Prayer  at the Villa de Matel and in other churches in Houston.   My husband Al and I will always be grateful for that.   I am so glad that we have come to know his son Carlo,  also as a dedicated Taize supporter, who spent time with the Taize Brothers in France.  It is in loving memory of Dr. Romero that we send our condolences to the entire family.  

 Dr. Romero always made my husband and me feel like family, simply  Dr. Romero took time out of his busy schedule to check in on our first-adopted child, Emerson, as he recovered from multiple surgeries at Texas Children's Hospital--even though Dr. Romero was not Emerson's doctor.  When my husband underwent a dangerous surgery in 2012, Dr. Romero was with me in the consultation area when the surgeon came out to inform me how everything went.  He placed his hand on top of mine, to help calm my nerves, and reassured me that I could trust the surgeon's statements that all would be ok.  Without Dr. Romero, I would have been alone during what, otherwise, would have been one of the most terrifying moments of my life.  Although he was not the attending anesthesiologist, Dr. Romero provided double comfort--as both a father and a doctor.  Despite his busy schedule, he returned to the recovery unit the next day to check on my husband's progress.  He was just that kind of man! Although Dr. Romero spent only a matter of minutes with us during these difficult events, the impact of his selfless presence was timeless.  His kind spirit, loving prayers, and sound intellect and judgment brought healing to us all.  As Emerson prepares to undergo yet another surgery next month, Dr. Romero's physical absence (his distinct laugher; his light-footed way of walking--which was, indeed, as someone else has noted, ninja-like; and his melodic manner of speech) will be painfully noticed. But we know he will be there with us in spirit, as he will be for all who loved him and whom he loved.  Dr. Romero's love (shared through his words as well as his deeds) has left a permanent mark on this world, and those of us who remain are all in a better place because he was here.


In presence, he allayed fear, ensured safe journeys, and brought sweetness to caring

In absence, he accentuates longing, reminds meaningful living, and leaves quietness to memories 

I remember Dr. Romero as a real man of faith, with a heart of gold. As I reflect on my interactions with him, he was always serving people. He literally put himself last over and over, all the way to the end. He had such selflessness and truly did God's work here on Earth. He had so much energy, I'm pretty sure he could run circles around people half his age. The most important thing though, was his heart for people. Not a day would pass without him sharing a story of a person who was in the hospital that he knew or was assisting through the Consul. He loved helping people and trying to facilitate care. He laughed freely, smiled incessantly and had a light sense of humor. Your presence Dr Romero is literally gone, and we all miss the way you lit up the world. I know you're keeping Jesus company in heaven, without any work schedules to worry about or an iPhone to figure out. Much love and blessings to his wife and family... My family is praying for yours at this painful time 

I have not seen Carlos for a long time, since Spring Branch Htal.  I will remember him as a friendly, cheerful friend and a very competent physician.

Aprendí de mis padres a querer y respetar al doctor Carlitos, como ellos cariñosamente lo llamaban.
Siempre escuchaba cómo apoyaba a muchos ecuatorianos en Houston.
La leyenda de su bondad crecía. Nuestro Cónsul Honorario se multiplicaba, generoso con su tiempo y consejos.
Por razones de salud de mi esposo, Houston fue nuestra meta y pude conocerlo profundamente.
Era un hacedor de milagros donde otros solo veían problemas.
Su legado no queda inscrito en piedra sino en las almas tocadas por el y en los familiares y amigos de aquellos, que hoy nos encontramos estremecidos por su ausencia.
A su querida esposa e hijos nuestra solidaridad.
Confiemos que al pasar el tiempo nos dará harto consuelo su memoria.

Hoy levanto una oración por tu alma y tu descanso eterno. Hasta que nos volvamos a ver!!

It was ABSOLUTELY heartbreaking to learn of the passing of our GREAT ANESTHESIA DOCTOR, a GREAT friend, and a GREAT man. DR. ROMERO was a VERY SPECIAL PERSON that DEEPLY touched the lives of our staff and patients at DOCTOR'S OUTPATIENT SURGICENTER. He will be SOOOOO DEEPLY MISSED by EVERYONE who was BLESSED to have known him. I just wish HEAVEN had visiting hours so I could see and talk to my dear friend once again. My daughter, April Lucero & I feel BLESSED by GOD to have had the PRIVILEGE to have worked with Dr. Romero. He was ALWAYS SO CHEERFUL, HAPPY, HARD WORKING, COMPASSIONATE, TOLD US FUNNY STORIES, ALWAYS ENCOURAGING, ALWAYS TOOK EXCELLENT CARE OF OUR PATIENTS, TEASED ME WHEN I WORE BORING WHITE SOCKS (HE LOVED COLORFUL SOCKS), HE SANG SONGS, FAST ON HIS FEET LIKE A NINJA, AND MADE A MESS OF AN ORGANIZED CHART FASTER THAN ANY DOCTOR I'VE EVER KNOWN...LOL!  BUT HE LOOKED CAREFULLY AT ALLLLLL THE INFO ON EVERY PATIENT TO PROVIDE THE MOST EXCELLENT CARE TO EVERY PATIENT. MY DAUGHTER, APRIL, and I have HEAVY HEARTS but know in our hearts that you are in HEAVEN now interviewing all the angels.  Everyone in heaven is HAPPY & HEALTHY, all the assessments will be WNL & the ONLY anesthesia your patients will need is seeing your SWEET SMILE, LOOKING into your KIND EYES, & FEELING YOUR SWEET SPIRIT ....YOU MY FRIEND HAVE TRUELY EARNED YOUR GOLDEN WINGS! DR. ROMERO, I LOVE AND MISS YOU MY DEAR FRIEND but  know in my heart I WILL see you again... I met Dr. Romero several years ago working at the same hospital. He was a dedicated and cheerful physician with every patient. He truly enjoyed his profession. It was a pleasure working with him for many years. He will be deeply missed.

Dr. Carlos was a kind, caring, and compassionate human being who brought joy to everyone that met him. I worked with Dr Romero for years at Spring Branch in the 90’s and am so sad to hear that his young life on earth has ended. What a wonderful man I had the pleasure of knowing.  Although I knew him just a short while...he was never without a smile and brought plenty of happiness in everyone's life.  We will miss him dearly and I give my condolences to his family.

I had that greatest pleasure working with Dr Romero at Kingskand Surgery Center.  What a great spirit.  He was always ready with a smile and a karate move, lol.  He took care of my daughter when she came in.  She was nervous and he made her feel relaxed and less nervous.   We would have a heavy load day full of procedures and he always kept that smile on his face and never broke his stride.  I think he could of worked circles around us all.  I'm sending my deepest condolences to his family.  I know Heavens gates opened wide to welcome home a sweet angel.

Si alguna vez existió un ser humano tan integro, amable, entusiasta, dispuesto a compartir un alentador saludo, un consejo, una asistencia, orientación a quien en muchas ocasiones a duras penas conocía personalmente, pero por referencias, vínculos, parientes de sus amigos, o simplemente porque era un compatriota ecuatoriano en momento de necesidad, o quizas, aún de angustia, a ésas personas les venía bien un buen consejo, orientación en ese mundo médico, de grandes e importantes Hospitales de Houston, Texas. En ésas ocaciones hizo historia de estar PRESENTE ... Ese fué mi compañero cristobalino, Salesiano, el Dr. CARLOS ROMERO! Mis sinceras condolencias para su esposa Cecilia y entera familia.
Que descanse en la Gloria de Dios! 

Carlos was a true angel on earth. When I came to Houston with my brother Luis Ayora whom needed urgent heart surgery, Carlos introduced himself,  offered my brother and I all of his support, gave me a card with his tel numbers and urged us to call him no matter the time of day in case we needed anything. And he came by every day to check on us. Cecilia, please accept my sincere and deepest condolences on my and my family's behalf. Carlitos will be for ever dearly remembered
