Mrs. Darene Johnson

Darene was born on October 5, 1928 in Gorman, Texas to parents Stonewall Fitzhugh Stewart and Nesa Susan Wright and entered into eternal rest on October 8, 2019 at the age of 91. She started picking cotton at age five, sang with her sister at their father's Pentecostal church, married Walter Henry Johnson on February 23, 1952 in Fort Worth, Texas and was a waitress for most of her childrens' lives. She worked at American General Insurance where she was so beloved all of its departments would get her a birthday cake and she worked at Convair after World War II. Darene lived with her sister Eva for nearly 25 years and they did everything together. She loved chocolate, would eat desserts before dinner and baked chocolate pies. Darene was a big sports fan and played baseball on a womens league. She followed football, baseball and golf with two TVs in the living room and a table between them with a jigsaw puzzle. She was quick witted and played 42 with dominoes where she would say "I'm gonna get you" if she was winning or "I can't do a darn thing" if she was losing. Darene also loved going to the casino, and Phil Mickelson. She had a stroke at age 72 which slowed her down.

Darene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter Henry Johnson in 1977; her son Michael Stewart Johnson; her brothers Clemo Stewart, Elvin Stewart and Billy Jean Stewart; her sisters Allen Gibson and Eva Rooker; and her grandson Vincent Johnson.

She is survived by her son Walter Henry Johnson, Jr. and wife Cindy of Grand Prairie, Texas; daughter Elizabeth Darene Lewis and husband Ed of Euless, Texas; son Tracy Evan Johnson and family of Fresno, California; granddaughter Shelley Odem of Mississippi; grandson Michael Johnson of Mississippi; granddaughter Monica Pletcher and husband Tanner of Shallow Water, Texas; grandson Jeremy Johnson of Dallas, Texas; grandson Cody Lewis and wife Georganna of Fort Worth, Texas; grandson Daniel Lewis of Euless, Texas; granddaughter Nina Johnson of Arkansas; numerous beloved great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
