One of the best and truest friends I've ever had. 

We've known each other since the mid-1980s, and upon his return to the Buffalo area fifteen years ago we picked right up where we left off and have been regularly gaming, dining, and enjoying movies together ever since.

His passing comes as a shock to me and to the countless people whose lives he's touched in his 53 years. We were all lucky to have had him.

There will never be another like him in my life, and I will miss him forever.

1998 I was working at a test and measurement manufacturer. We had just purchased a new CAD system from PTC. The VAR sent Victor to our office setup our computers. While Victor was in my cubical, he noticed my Dragonlance wall calendar. He inquired if I played roleplaying games? I do. He had a group that played every Saturday at his place, if I was interested. They were going to be starting a new campaign. That is how I met Gary, Mike, Chris, Sean and Bruce. Shortly thereafter Nick joined us. We would play two different games for ten plus hours every Saturday for more than two years. Sometimes watching a movie or anime. Such as Tenchi, Golden Boy or Fear of a Black Hat.
Gary was a mobile reference book, no, library of games. The group of us, went through AD&D 2ND ED, D&D 3, 3.5, HERO 5, Gamma World, Amber and Mage. Gary was a big help with HERO 5, with its power pools and other non-D20 based mechanics. I had played other D6 based games, Star Wars WEG, but this was different. He would ask what your character concept was and would help build it, suggesting stats and abilities. And items, so that you didn’t waste points for a trivial action.

Gary will truly be missed by us all. Whether it be memories of his room at Victor’s condo. Where he had several computers on top of sheets of plywood, straddling sawhorses. With a mattresses, pillow and other bedding under the deathtrap. Laserdisc, VHS tapes and action figures all about the room.

Once we showed up to help him move to his own place, and he hadn’t packed anything yet. And he worked IT, at a company that made boxes.

Loud discussions with players that didn’t understand the game mechanics. Eye, ya, yie, grabbing his head. Always willing to help, if you asked though.

Trying to build a D20 Star Wars character as powerful as a Jedi, without being a Jedi, and giving up.

His Superhero character, being setup by Mike, and Red Misting Neil Armstrong. Gary feeling so guilty, while Mike laughed. Later, his character’s name being used, to refer to, a type of attack.

My wife and I used Gary services for many years and always found him to be quite helpful, polite, and professional.  It is very sad to hear of his passing.

Gail, I am so sorry to hear of Gary's passing.  I am thinking of you and sending love.

I've had the honor of working with Gary for the last two years at EWI/Buffalo Manufacturing Works.  He was always so helpful, knew his craft well, and will always be remembered for his work ethic and great sense of humor.  Though we worked together in different states and I never got to meet him in person, I considered him a friend and teammate.   Praying for his family and friends in this tough time.
