Ursula Marianne Abrams went to be with her Lord on November 22, 2019, surrounded by her cherished family. Oma to many, was born to Max and Janina Michalski in Berlin, Germany. The family lived in Germany for 3 years until they went to Poland. They lived in Poland for 3-4 months until they walked miles to get to the train that would take them out of Poland and back to Germany. Back in Berlin the family lived in a schoolhouse and slept on mattresses until Ursula’s Grandfather, who was an important person in Bavaria, helped the family get into Hof where two sisters were born and the family of six lived for many years.
Ursula met Coy, who was in the Navy and temporarily stationed in Germany. They were married on July 31, 1954. After their wedding, they moved to Morocco, North Africa and then to Oklahoma City where they started their family. While their family grew, she worked at Western Electric building phones. With three biological children of her own, Ursula’s older sister passed away and she and Coy took in the four children raising them as their own. After leaving Western Electric, she worked 30+ years at Will Rogers Airport in various positions. While there, she had many customers from all over the world that would come to see her as they passed through Oklahoma City. She won several awards for sales. Ursula was an avid Oklahoma City Thunder fan and looked forward to watching and cheering on the team with each and every game.
Ursula was very passionate about her family and had many friends. She looked forward to holidays and special days when the family would gather. She also looked forward to her weekly luncheons with her German friends. She was also very passionate about her neighbors and friends, who she would check on and take care of if there was a need. Teresa, Maryann, and Rose were all very special to her and she spoke with them often. She never let a stray dog or cat go without food or water and would take in any strays. Ursula was deeply devoted to her Catholic Church and God. She loved children and even worked a short time as a Nanny. When her daughter Sandy became ill she didn’t think twice about taking on the role of her caregiver. She loved deeply and always looked for the best in people. She had a servant heart and was the one who made sure everyone had their needs and wants met. Growing up there were a lot of moms in the neighborhood, but what made her special is that she was our mom.
Ursula was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Loni Billings, her nephew Robin Billings, and her daughter Sandy Essman. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Coy of Oklahoma City; her son Russell Abrams and wife Sheryl of Albion, Indiana; daughter Janette Owens of White Settlement, Texas; daughter Judy Domkowski of Oxnard, California; son Randy Abrams of Oklahoma City; son Phillip Fielder and wife Teri of Tuttle; daughter Connie Bingham and husband Mike of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Annette Roberts of Frankfurt, Germany and Marianne Michalski of Berlin, Germany; and 16 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Nephew.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at Saint James Catholic Church, 4201 S. McKinley Ave., OKC. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2019, at Sunny Lane Funeral Home, 4000 S.E. 29th St, Del City.
