Dear Mom, Mahalo for sharing Your wonderful daughter with me.  It was nice having You live with us on Maui.  You were such a great cook and an excellent ballroom dancer.  I will miss You. We are saddened to hear the loss of our long-time member and friend, Florence Gonzales. Born of an American Thomasite father and a Filipina mother, Florence chose to keep her strong ties to the Filipino community and remained an active member of the Filipino American Association of Portland and Vicinity and the Filipino American National Historical Society, Oregon Chapter. Goodbye Florence. God bless you and keep you in His loving arms. 

We at the Filipino American Friendship Club of Oregon and the Catholic Community Core Group are praying that God will be merciful on the soul of Florence.

Florence was one of the Filipino Americans who  welcomed us in the 1970s when we first came to Portland.  I remember the array of delicious Filipino dishes at the many gatherings at the FAAPV Cultural Center on Stark, prepared by generous old timers like her.  If I remember right, Florence was one of the graceful women who showcased Philippine folk dances.  They were lovely to watch. A reminder of our beautiful Philippine culture.  She was one of the last seniors who fundraised really hard to acquire the cultural center.  May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.  And may perpetual light shine upon her.

Dearest Nana,
I will always cherish the memories of the times you were with me when I was a child: the books you read to me, the delicious meals you made, the special moments we shared during celebrations like birthdays, Easter and Christmas, your warm hugs and gentle voice. The stories you told me of your life and my mother's life. All the little things like your letters that showed your love and support throughout these years. Despite the distance I know we always loved each other. I will forever love you and miss you Nana. Until we meet again xo
