John A. “Jack” Hampson, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, January 4, 2020, and is now with the Lord. Jack was born in Paterson, N.J. in 1932 to Alfred Hampson and Anna Cecilia Hampson. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1951, serving as a gunner’s mate on the U.S.S. Cronin, and remained a proud veteran of the Korean War. After his service, Jack attended Fairleigh Dickinson College and worked at the Ford Automobile plant in Mahwah, N.J., before embarking on a lifetime career as one of the nation’s most distinguished new car sales representatives. For more than 35 years, Jack specialized in Cadillac sales, in N.J. and Fla., finishing his career at Dimmitt Cadillac, Clearwater, Fla. Jack married the love of his life, Susan, in 1961 and the two of them shared a beautiful life full of family, friends, and adventure. They were blessed with three children--John, Theresa and David, and in 1974 their cousins Suzanne, Brian and Rex joined the family. Together, In 1977, the expanded family migrated to Largo, Fla. Jack was a man of strong Catholic faith and community service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks, the VFW, and the American Legion. He was also dedicated member of St. Jerome Catholic Church, and with his wife, enjoyed many years participating in Land Cruisers, a local travelling motorhome group. Jack is pre-deceased by his parents, his brother- James Kelleher, and his sister- Ann Cosgrove. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 58 years- Susan Hampson, his three children- John (Gabrielle) Hampson, David Hampson, and Terri (Lonnie) Hill, his brother- Jerry (Jacqueline) Kelleher, and six grandchildren- Julia, Dylan, Eric, Katherine, Derek, and Kelly. A visitation will be held in his honor on Thursday, January 9, 2020, from 3-7pm at Serenity Funeral Home. A mass will be held the following day, Friday, January 10, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jerome Catholic Church with military honors and a reception to follow at Serenity Funeral Home. “Cadillac Jack” will be dearly missed by many, many family and friends.
