Montgomery Architect, John Gandy 85, passed away at home on January 10, 2020, surrounded by his family. Born in Brundidge, AL, he graduated from Lanier High School and Auburn University where he received a Bachelor of Architecture Degree in 1958. In 1965, he joined PH&J Architects (formerly Pearson, Humphries and Jones) where he was the lead designer for over 45 years. He changed the skyline of Montgomery through his designs for the RSA Tower, RSA Plaza, RSA Union, RSA Executive building and RSA Headquarters, the Alabama Forestry Association building and the Southern Guarantee Insurance Company building. In Tuscaloosa, he designed the Bruno Business Library and the Holy Spirit Catholic Church. In Auburn, he designed a major addition to the Ralph Brown Draughon Library, the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences headquarters and a multitude of other significant buildings around the State of Alabama. He loved life, his family, friends and sailing. While he lived his adult life around Montgomery and Lake Martin, he always considered Brundidge his home.
He leaves behind his wife, Jackie, his 2 sons, Hal (Sylvie) from Wetumpka, Dr. Walter Gandy (Lesley) from Pensacola. He was a grandfather of 6 and great grandfather of 4. He will be missed by all.
Services will be held on Wednesday 15th of January at Leak Memory Chapel, Montgomery AL. Visitation is scheduled for 10 AM followed by the service at 11 AM. Burial to follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Brundidge AL. at 2:30 pm.
