Cushenbery, John L., 87, of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Saturday February 1, 2020 in Wichita. John was born the son of Henry and Ellen Cushenbery on March 5, 1932 in Sharon, Kansas. John and Laveta Cushenbery were united in marriage on February 3, 1952 in Manchester, Oklahoma. John served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant operating heavy equipment. He retired from Boeing after 37 years. John enjoyed working on cars and being a great friend to all who knew him. During his early years John worked along with his six brothers doing farm work and custom cutting. He was a Cub Scout Master and Boy Scout Leader. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson; Brett Cushenbery and 5 brothers; Dewey, Dale, Floyd, Roy and Herb, infant sister; Alma. Survivors include his loving wife; Laveta Cushenbery, children; Larry (Yvonne) Cushenbery, Dirk (Julie) Cushenbery, brother; Charles (Carol) Cushenbery, grandchildren; Chad (Danyelle) Cushenbery and 4 great-grandchildren; Hannah, Layson, Hayden and Everett and extended family and friends. Visitation will be Thursday February 6, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Home, 2929 W. 13th St., Wichita, Kansas. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday February 7, 2020 at Antioch Christian Church, 3741 W. 15th St. N., Wichita, Kansas 67203. Burial will be held at Harper Cemetery, Harper, Kansas. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Antioch Christian Church.
