Michal Szafran, 84, widower of Katarzyna (Barniak) Szafran, passed away February 8, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Poland and was the son to the late Alexander and Katarzyna (Major) Szafran. He was a devout parishioner of St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and a member of the church choir. As a retiree of Stanley Works, he enjoyed the many outings to the casino sponsored by the company he loved to work for.
Michal enjoyed tending to his garden and was a proud Bee Keeper. His advice of caring and tending to bees was sought by many in the area.
He is survived by his sons; Bohdan Szafran and his wife Bohdanna of Killingworth, CT and Mark Szafran and his wife Debra of New Hartford, CT.
His sister Ruzia Rafalski of Myczkow, Poland
His precious Grandchildren; Daria Warycha, Stephanie Szafran, Michael Szafran, Jessica Szafran, Larysa Wordingham and Alexander Szafran
His sweet great-grandchildren; Matthew Warycha, Luke Warycha and Peter Warycha
He was also predeceased by a brother; Hryhorij Major of Poland.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the caregivers who took such loving care of our father during the most recent years and to all his friends and family for their many acts of kindness and support.
A time of visitation will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2020 from 5-8pm, with a Panahyda service at 7pm at New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain. Funeral services will begin Wednesday, February 12, 2020 9:00am from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Liturgy at 10AM in St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 303 Eddy Glover Blvd. New Britain, CT
Memorial donations may be made in Michal’s memory to St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.
