Our trip to Key West was such an adventure. The ride down will always be in my favorite memories.  I miss you Walt.  I pray I’ll see you on the other side. 

I had the honor of serving as Walt's Nurse Case Manager at the VA. I can truly say he was one of my favorites. His humor and ability to keep it straight 100 was his gift. Walt would call or come by the office just to check in and say Mr Cooper "I'm good". We would always talk about McKenzie and he would smile and talk about  how he loved spending time with her.  He had a  dedication to his father that was admired and in general he had a great love for life and a BIG heart. He was a self proclaimed Cheese Head and would talk about football forever if you let him. Gonna miss him. I am glad that our paths crossed on this journey and I am hoping that I added to his short time on this earth.  I salute you my man.  American Hero, Great Dad, Dedicated son, friend to many.

Walt worked alongside me for years in the tree care industry.  You learn a lot about an individual when you function as a team under difficult and stressful situations. What I learned about Walt is that he could be relied upon in all situations to do what was needed to accomplish our goals.  More importantly, he did so with a smile on his face.  What will always stand out to me was Walts sense of humor and his ability to tell a story.  He was able to use his special blend of humor and humility to bring a sense of levity to any situation.  He had us in tears from laughing on more occasions than I can recount.  He was self deprecating and was always able to laugh at himself.  A rare gift in this world.
Rest easy Milkshake.  You will be missed

Walt, you were and always will be my brother. I watched you grow up right down the street. My memories of you will never go away. Reading all these comments jut shows me how loved you are. And how much love you have.  I love you Walt and I always will. 

I served with Walt in the U.S. Army, from about 2003 to 2005, or up until the point where he got out. We were assigned to 2nd Platoon, 25th Transportation Company (Road Masters), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. 
We were young men, I was 19 years old and Hutch was at-least 21, we were newly enlisted privates fresh out of basic training and (AIT).  My first impression of him was this squared-away, husky white-boy with a deep southern accent. He told me he was from North Carolina and I told him I was from Georgia, and since we both understood southern culture, we made a connection. 

He kept his uniform looking sharp by having them dry-cleaned, pressed, starched and he maintained a pair of perfectly spit-shined boots that would almost make you embarrassed to stand next to him. He had the attitude of a leader and a better understanding of military life than most of us at that age.

He loved the Green Bay Packers, old western movies starring John Wayne or Clint Eastwood and Jameson whiskey in a glass with no more than two ice cubes. Our many engagements from soldiering, training and hanging out would lead us to become friends, but the bond we shared from the experience and all that we endured on the battlefield together would make us Brothers.

Hutch took on the call sign of "Big Duke Six" from the old war movie "Apocalypse Now", and over time we commonly refer to him as "Big Duke" or "The Duke". 
So, I say unto you brother, farewell and be at peace. 



Walt,
I don’t know where to start--from the moment I met you in Hawaii-I knew you were an amazing person with a big heart.  And having the chance to serve with you will always be a great honor. Walt, you have left us far too soon, but I know you have a new job at God’s side-to watch over all of us. I wish we could have had more time with you. I will always cherish the little bit of time spent with you and the conversations we shared. Until we all meet again brother.  Thoughts and prayers for your family and friends while they go through this difficult time. You will always be in our hearts and will be missed dearly.

Walt it was a pleasure serving along side you in the army, saddened to hear of your passing but relieved to know that God knows best.  My prayers are with your family to help them get through such a time as this.  Rest east brother
