Born in Detroit, Michigan on August 3, 1929, she was the only daughter and youngest of four children of immigrant Italian parents. While in high school in Detroit, she met the man she would later marry; together they lived devotedly for the next 62 years until he passed. Upon her death on Saint Valentine’s Day, she was reunited for eternity with her Sweetheart, Leslie Wyett, on the anniversary of their engagement.
She and her husband and daughter moved to High Point in 1969. She liked to serve others volunteering as a ”Candy Striper” in local hospitals and delivering “Meals on Wheels” to shut-ins. While Gilda was the consummate homemaker, she always had time to help her family. Once her own mother relocated to High Point, Gilda faithfully transported her weekly to Gilda’s daughter’s home where raising twin girls became a family affair.
Devoted to and beloved of her family, Gilda is survived by her daughter, Linda, her three grandchildren, Caitlin, Daphne, and Wells, her three great-grandsons, Declan Wyett, Kylan, and Soul, and her brother, Ermando.
A memorial service will be held at Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point on Friday, February 21 at 1 PM preceded by a visitation and time to greet the family, 11 AM-1PM. Interment will be for family only.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, and Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
