Shirley P. Thompson

Shirley P. Thompson, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 7, 2020 surrounded by her family at Methodist Hospice in Memphis, TN. She was born on October 24, 1931 to the late John Edward and Willie Lora Polsdorfer. Shirley was a dedicated member of Emory Methodist Church. Her favorite pastimes were cooking, reading, quilting and gardening. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and her contagious smile and loving heart will be missed dearly. Along with her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her first love of 32 years, Wallace Edward Briscoe, and her second loving husband of 17 years, Curtis Thompson, and a sister, Mary L. Taggart. Survivors include five children, Belinda Beasley (Robert), Debbie Mathews, Mary Lorraine Briscoe, Ellen R. Taylor, and Wallace Briscoe; four step children, Tim Thompson, Tommy Thompson, Helen Stewart, and Betsy Payne. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, Beth Pearson (Walt), Anne Mathews, Stuart Mathews (Brooke), Brooks Mathews (Laura Kate), Robert E. Beasley, Daniel Tiner (Kandace), Rachel Tiner, Blake Tiner, Jacob Briscoe, and 5 great grandchildren, Robert Pearson, Ben Pearson, Rhett Mathews, Molly Mathews and Jackson Mathews. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Mrs. Shirley’s Memory to Methodist Healthcare Foundation-Hospice Residence or Red Banks Cemetery Association. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St. Olive Branch, Ms 38654. Burial will follow at Red Banks Cemetery.
