William Francis Allen, 95, of Salisbury, Maryland passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Florida. He had a long and wonderful life. Named for his grandfather, William F. Allen, he was the son of the late Albert Gillis Allen and Marie Walls Allen.
A graduate of the Phillips Exeter Academy and Cornell University, he went on to earn his Masters degree from Duke and a Ph.D. from Tulane. He worked as a commercial mortgage banker in New Orleans and subsequently retired in central Florida. He was an avid tennis player and accomplished at ballroom dancing. He enjoyed body surfing at the beach. He was always devoted to his family and a devout Roman Catholic. Everyone knew him as a very kind, gracious, and generous man.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-one years, Jessie Ellis Allen. He is survived by his four children: Elizabeth, Theresa, William, and James. He has seven grandchildren: Michael Allen, John Allen, Cameron Allen, William Ellis Allen, Andrew Franklin, Suzannah Franklin, and Christiane Franklin.
A Liturgy of the Word will be held for the family at Bounds Funeral Home or at the graveside on May 22, 2020. Interment will be held in Parsons Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a food bank for benefit of those in need.
