Cecilia ‘Sally’ Galvan Salazar, aged 87, passed away on May 21, 2020 in Houston, TX. She was born on June 17, 1932 in Houston, TX to Servando and Ursula Galvan. She married the love of her life, Julian V. Salazar, Jr. who preceded her in death in 2013.
Born the third of eleven siblings, Sally was a natural caregiver who always put others before herself. She left high school after 9th grade to help raise her younger siblings. As soon as the youngest were old enough, she wanted to make the best use of her talents and decided she wanted to be a nurse. She worked and put herself through nursing school at St Josephs hospital nursing program which was run by nuns. At the beginning of her nursing career she worked in the children’s ward at St. Joseph’s, then moving to postpartum working in the nursery caring for newborn infants. Later, she worked at St. Luke’s hospital located in the Medical center of Houston, Texas. It is there she met Dr. Hector Del Castillo, Sr. and would work as his OB/GYN nurse for three decades. She happily worked as a nurse 1956-1990.
Sally took excellent care of her children, she fought for them, advocated for them, she prayed for them, disciplined them, she was the only reassurance her girls ever need in life.
Sally is preceded in death by her admiring parents Servando and Ursula Galvan and her loving husband Julian V. Salazar, Jr; Siblings, Rosa Marie Abrego, Beatrice G. Resendez, Eugene Galvan, Jessie Galvan and Joe Galvan.
She is survived by her 2 daughters: Cynthia M. Graham and Theresa Salazar Roque; her 6 grandchildren: George Albert Alvarado, Martha Graham, Danika Salazar, Alina Roque, Brissa Roque, and Adrianna Roque; and her 5 great grandchildren: Andrew Beverly, Brian Jones, Gavin Waltein, Aniya Gatson, and Isabelle Waltein; Siblings, Delfina Raney, Ursula La Due, Vicky Mendoza, Dora Galvan and
Vera Cruz.
