Ruby “Ann” McKissack passed away on June 24, 2020. She was living in Sulphur Springs, Texas in assisted living close to her daughter. She was born July 31, 1923 in Beckville, Texas to Judge W.S. Crawford and Bennie Daniels Crawford. She graduated from Sam Houston State Teachers College in 1944 and started her life as a teacher, a profession she has loved since she was a child. She soon met the love of her life, Gordon “Ross” McKissack and they were married on October 28, 1946 and remained married until his passing on April 5, 1991. They had two children; Cynthia Ann and Gordon Scott. Ann, as she was affectionately known, was hired in 1956 with the Spring Branch school system and taught 4th and 5th grade at Hunters Creek until 1983 when she retired.
She loved her family.
Her greatest love was teaching. She loved her students and the love was reciprocated. After retirement, she traveled to Europe, Holland, and Italy, took several cruises, and loved being with her friends.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and her husband.
Left to cherish Ann's memory, are her children; Cynthia McKissack Weaver of Sulphur Springs, Texas and Gordon Scott, wife Georgia of Johnson City, Texas; grandchildren, Allison McKissack of Austin, Texas, Gordon Scott, Jr., wife Haley of Austin , Texas; great grandchildren, Madison Rasp and Ryal and Charlee McKissack.
As a member of Chapelwood Methodist Church since 1956, Ann enjoyed her Sunday school “Bright Siders” and had many lifelong friends from teaching and Sunday school. She was loved by many and will be missed by her family.
Visitation will commence at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, June 29, 2020 from 3-5PM. The funeral services and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Chapelwood Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street, Houston, Texas 77024 and Hunters Creek Elementary, 10650 Beinhorn Road, Houston, Texas 77024.
