Josephine Matwijiw

Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre on Sunday, July 12, 2020 in her 95th year. Predeceased by her husband Stefan Matwijiw (1993). Loving mother to Bohdan “Dan” (Anna) and Myron. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Stefan and Bohdan and her sister Pelahia Galan and family. Josephine was a long time member of The Ukrainian Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist as well as the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League dedicating much of her time to helping prepare food for community events including The Villages. She was known for her embroidery, pysanky (Easter Eggs), and baking. The family will receive friends at Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home (96 West St.) on Thursday, July 16 from 2-4 and 7-9. Panakhyda at 8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, July 17 10 a.m. followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Warm thanks to St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre, Dr. Hadley, and the staff of Chestnut Court and Canary Path for their care and dedication to Josephine.
