Fred made my life just a bit better by being such a great Instructor at the Keyport EMT Course last Fall. His good character was front and center. He was deliberate in his delivery, and was stern and caring for the students, and the patients we would serve. He's from another era, and even though I didn't know him very well, I know the type of man he was. This world needs more Freds.

I use to speak to Fred years ago when I was the Operations Officer for Dover Twp Emergency Mgmt. Very nice man he was. And I thank him for his service with the first aid squad. Prayers of comfort for his family and fellow Squad members. Rest In Peace Fred.

Fred Etting was known in the family as “Winky”, he was a man I looked up to for the better part of my life.

As kids growing up together we had great times, playing sports, riding bikes, eating Watermelon- (a whole one each), having Pizza and eating the crust in bed!

As our mothers were sisters, we spent a lot of family time together, not only at holidays,  but all during the year.

I always felt as our relationship developed, that we were more like brothers than Cousins.

When Winks could drive he acquired a Henry J – What a car!  We had many a great ride up to our Uncles Lake house for weekend visits.

On one of our trips to the lake, I had a convulsion when we were out in a canoe and I fell overboard and sank to the bottom of the lake.  Winks jumped in and hauled me out, and saved my life! I’m eternally grateful and owe my life to Winks, there is no way I could repay him for that deed.

I introduced Winks to his wife Virginia, my wife’s sister, prior to him joining the navy, where he was a navy “Flyboy” 3rd crewman on an aircraft carrier, the” Boxer”
.
We have enjoyed many, many years of family relationships, fabulous trips, visits and the like.  

I will miss you cuz – Thanks for all the great times we had together and most of all my life – Love you.

I knew Fred professionally. I co-instructed with him for many years in teaching E.M.T. programs.

He was very dedicated in his teachings, making sure that our students were taught correctly.

He will be sorely missed by those that benefitted from his teaching and those who taught with him like myself.

My condolences to his family. 

Fred will always be remembered with a smile by all that knew him.

May he rest in peace. 

I enjoyed playing several rounds of golf with Fred in the NAVALAIRS golf league. He was a true gentleman and a pleasure to be around. He will certainly be missed during our outings. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this difficult time.

We had the pleasure of meeting Fred at our EMT class in Keansburg this past fall. His enthusiasm and passion for educating his students was contagious. He was a great instructor with a lot of class and humor. We feel blessed to have known him and to have learned from him. May you rest in peace, Fred. We thank you for all you have done and we also thank your family for sharing you with the EMT community.

i cannot attend the service as  i am an at risk person. i regret this very much.  Fred was a fellow emt educator since the mid 70's and one of the best.  his past military service and bearing shown thru particularly when he taught with me for 30 yrs to military emt trng classes in NY&NJ.  his subject knowledge and especially his mastery of the fine points of required skills continued to impress students and instructors alike .his ability to translate normally land based performances into applications inside the engine room of a small Coast Guard cutter and relate the finer points of the job to future lifesavers at sea was something to behold!  yes i knew and loved Fred and i will miss him. Ginny, Steve, Deb and your entire family.  We are so very sorry for your loss.  Fred was a very special man.  Always there to help anyone who needed it.
We have so many memories...and we will treasure them..always.  I met Fred and Ginny when I was 14.   I have far to many memories to list them.  The one memory Jay and I will always cherish...is the day Fred talked me into going to the Thanksgiving football game...where Jay was broadcasting.  We hadn't seen each other in a year.  Fred told me I had nothing to loose.  He was right.  That was 1973.  In 1976,  Fred, Ginny and most of the members of EDFA were sitting in St Joe's Church, watching Jay and I get married.  On August 15th...it will be 44 years.  Jay and I have been forever grateful that Fred gave me that little nudge...and encouragement to go to the Game that day.
RIP Fred....you will remain in our hearts...ALWAYS. 💙🙏

So sorry for your lost. I was a student of Keyport EMT and Fred was the head instructor. What an amazing person he was he made you want to be a better person and a better EMT. I am so blessed that he touched my life and I will always remember him and be grateful that he was in my life.

I remember all the wonderful things Fred tought me in ems class and all the private heart to heart talks he gave me i love him so much he will be greatly missed. So sry for ur loss Rest In Peace Fred love u
