Retired Special Agent (CMSgt) Charles A. Costa.
Charlie was born on 26 August 1942, and passed away on 12 August 2020. He will be laid to rest at the Arlington National Cemetery on September 1, 2021, at 9:00 am. A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at Rucci’s Deli in White Plains, MD, at 11:30. Friends and family are invited to attend. Please be mindful of possible restrictions due to COVID-19.
If you did not have the privilege to know Charlie, he served the United States Air Force (USAF) for 30 years which included a historic 25 year career with the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) as an exceptional Airman, Agent, and Leader within the Command which earned him a place in OSI’s Hall of Fame. He entered OSI as a Staff Sergeant, with five years of Air Force experience. Throughout his career, he achieved outstanding investigative results spanning across the command in locations such as the Iowa, Kansas, Philippines, Korea, California, Germany, Arizona, and Washington D.C..
Prior to joining the Air Force, Charlie worked for the US Forest Service for a few years. He grew up in Willows, CA and spent most of his summers and part of the fall in Downieville, CA, with his family enjoying fishing for trout, hikes, tubing down the Yuba River and jumping into their favorite swimming hole.
Charlie loved and cherished his family, his time in the USAF and OSI. He was a true mentor, loving husband and amazing father. Once he retired, he enjoyed spending time with his Bison Court and Rucci’s Deli families - two things that made the move back West difficult for him.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Anne Catherine (Heany) Costa, who is also an OSI legend all her own. Charlie’s life will continue to be celebrated by his daughter Karen Costa, his sister-in-law Christina Heany (Jack Heany) and brother-in-law Thomas Heany (Robyn), nephew Brian Heany (Laura, Aidan and Ashlyn), niece Angelika Heany, nephew Seth Heany (Molly, Liam and Ronan), and nephew Brendan Heany, as well as his his many Costa cousins, friends and loved ones.
