Elmer Ralph Schultz

Elmer was born in Detroit, MI. on Sept. 13, 1920 to Ralph and Margaret (Pohl) Schultz. On April 18, 1942 at St. Martins Church in Detroit, he married the former Eileen Bruso. Elmer was a skilled machinist who was employed by Detroit Tap & Tool and later Commando Tool Company for 40 years. These companies played a vital role during war time. He retired in 1985, and then moved up north to Elk Rapids from Troy, MI. with his family.

Elmer was a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Troy, MI. as well as Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids. He was a 4th Degree Knights member in the Detroit Area and Elk Rapids of the Knights of Columbus. He loved bowling on the Knights of Columbus team, horseback riding, and also square dancing with his lovely wife Eileen with the Button and Bows Club. Elmer has a long list of charitable works with the church and Knights of Columbus. Elmer has also spent many hours helping out with his families cherry orchards. If you ever needed help with anything “Just call Al”. Most importantly he was a good father and husband.

He is survived by his wife of 78 years Eileen, children; David (Judy), Guy (Susan), Anne Marie (Eric) Richey and Dennis (Kim). Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Ralph; brothers, James and Joe, and sisters, Phyllis and Mary Ann.

A memorial mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions appreciated to the Knights of Columbus, c/o 13260 Rex Terrace Rd. Rapid City, MI. 49676, or Hospice of Michigan.
