Don S. Furukawa

Don Furukawa was born on May 22, 1926, in Snowmass, Colorado when it was just a wide spot in the road. He passed away peacefully on October 13, 2020, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family.

Don grew up in Grand Junction, Colorado where his family farmed. After graduating from Grand Junction High School, he served in the Army for 2 years. He attended the University of Colorado for a year and transferred to the University of Denver where he graduated with a B.S. in Accounting. He worked in Washington D.C. and in Chicago before happily returning to Denver, where he began his employment with I.R.S. He retired after 30 years and became a real estate broker for the next 20 years.

Don was a member of Northglenn United Church of Christ for 56 years where he served in many capacities. He was a volunteer for 45 years in many areas, including civic and non-profit organizations. His most rewarding experience was with The Denver Hospice where he served for 20 years.

Don met his wife Mary at the University of Colorado. They were married on October 22, 1954, and made their home in Pueblo, Colorado and Denver, Colorado. They shared almost 66 years together.

He leaves his wife Mary, two daughters, Diane Krohn and Laura Furukawa, granddaughter Heather (Mike) Ramirez, grandson Justin (Jasmine) Krohn, great-grandsons Michael, Max and Moses Ramirez, sister Dahlia (Hiro) Toyama, and nieces and nephews.

On his life shield, Don had written the following: Favorite place: Home. Free time: Read - meditation. Personal motto: Service to humanity. Greatest achievement: Having family. Main occupation: Helping others. One thing that will make me happy: Remember me for what I tried to do and be.
