Funeral home and chapel amenities

Reception room at Dunbar Funeral Home - Devine Street ChapelOur 18,000-square-foot funeral home includes a spacious, light-filled newly renovated chapel that will comfortably seat over 200 guests. In addition, we have five beautiful visitation rooms as well as private reception area.

Under current renovation, the exterior and interior of Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel will have new flooring, furniture, along with state-of-the-art technology. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel will have a modern, up-to-date look with the functionality you have come to expect.

Although the funeral home is not located on a cemetery property, we are conveniently located to Historic Elmwood Cemetery and Fort Jackson National Cemetery.

Cremation services

Our knowledgeable funeral directors can explain the many different options of cremation that are available. Whether you select a full service cremation or a direct cremation, we help you understand the choices for your loved one, handling all of the cremation arrangements. Our affiliate Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, has our on-site crematory.

History

We are part of the Dunbar family of funeral homes serving the communities of South Carolina since 1884. Dunbar Funeral Home is a well-respected name that still lives up to the standards set forth by our founder, J.M. Van Metre.

John Dunbar, Jr. purchased the Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel in 1962. Built in 1959, the location was previously known as Oaklawn Funeral Home. Generation after generation of the Dunbar family have continued in the footsteps of John Dunbar, Sr. Currently, 5th-generation funeral service provider, Greg Dunbar serves as the location’s manager.

Dunbar Funeral Home   Devine Street serves Columbia

John Jr. purchased the funeral home’s Devine Street location in 1962. Built in 1959, it was known before that as Oaklawn Funeral Home. Since then, generation after generation of the Dunbar family have followed in John Sr.'s footsteps. Greg Dunbar, a Columbia native and 5th-generation funeral service provider, currently serves as the location’s manager and a funeral director.

Funeral home renovation

Dunbar Funeral Home  Devine Street Chapel underwent a renovation in 1999 that doubled its size, allowing the facility to serve more families. The exterior and interior were updated in 2017.

Today, Dunbar Funeral Home is a member of the Dignity Memorial® network, the largest group of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers in North America, and we are always here for you when you need us.
