John A. Roy

May 20 1929—October 17 2020

It is with profound sadness that the family of John A Roy share the news of his passing on 10/17/2020 at the age of 91.

Born on May 20th, 1929, he was the son of Alfred and Louise Roy, and brother of Claire (Roy) Fugazzi.

In 1952 he married Eva Paoletti of Plymouth and they spent thirty years together very dedicated to raising their five children. John was predeceased by both of his parents and sister as well as Shirley Scholl his partner, Mary H. Roy, his daughter in-law, Kate L. Roy, his granddaughter, and Leah Roy, his great granddaughter.

John is survived by his five children, Richard J Roy and his fiancé Joan Tuttle of West Dennis, Michelle A Roy of Santa Barbara, Ca., Robert and Katherine Roy of Brewster, Ma., Renee L Mikita and Al Gomes of North Conway, NH., and John and Kelly Roy of Sandwich, Ma. John is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

John graduated from Plymouth High School in 1947. In 1948 John joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country during the Korean War attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. John was a devout patriot and often spoke with great reverence about any and all veterans who had served their country. He was passionate about his love and belief in the United States of America.

After his honorable discharge in 1952 from the service he and his wife Eva moved to Chatham, Ma. where he began his career as a sales rep for the Prudential Insurance Company of America. For 32 years John represented and served Prudential with great integrity, honesty and distinction. He truly believed in the service he provided to the people in his community and they believed in him. He often expressed how honored, grateful and blessed he was that his clients would place their faith in him as an advisor. He was accepted and welcomed in so many homes and respected and admired for his kind, pleasant and trustworthy character. His client’s best interests always came first and consequently John was recognized and honored in every one of his 32 years with Prudential as one of their very best producers. He loved his work and all the wonderful families he grew to know.

In 1984, John met Shirley Scholl and they remained a couple until Shirley’s passing in 2016.They traveled throughout the United States, Europe and Asia during there 33 years together. They adored each other and it was obvious to both the Roy and Scholl families. The Scholl children, Paul, Karen, Cynthia and Mitchell were John’s extended family and they loved and treated him with great kindness and compassion and he always felt so grateful and fortunate to have them in his life. However, it was Shirley’s son Paul through his amazing culinary expertise and talents who spoiled John every opportunity he had with gourmet wining and dining. John would count the days between Paul’s visits and would fast three days before his arrival. John cherished every moment spent with Shirley and her family.

For us his children, we enjoyed and took great pride in the way our father was perceived by the people in our community. Though thoroughly committed to his career our dad found the time to share in the passions of his children as an interested and proud observer and supporter. Basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, cheerleading, figure skating, music and theatre we kept him on the run. In our adult lives our father was euphoric and proud of any of our accomplishments and sympathetic and supportive during our struggles. Our dad rarely had an unkind thing to say about anybody. He showed us the path to take regarding the treatment of others. Honesty, kindness, hard work, fairness and maintaining a good sense of humor were the traits he most wanted to see in all of us. We were most fortunate and felt truly blessed that our father enjoyed independence and great health for all but one week of his 91 years on this earth. We loved him dearly and he surely loved us and he will be greatly missed.

Our family would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to the good people of the Beth Hollow neighborhood. Kind, compassionate and caring friends to the end one and all. Bless you all for comforting our father in good times and in bad. A special thank you to the Curtiss family for the love and support you so generously and consistently provided to our father. We will never forget it and we will be forever grateful.
