My deepest condolences to the Sylakowski Family, and the San Diego County Water Authority and its staff.  I met Marv many years ago, as he was involved with CLSA.  I was young and looked to others, to help guide and show me certain things.  I always loved working and speaking with Marv, as he was sincere with his ways.  He was extremely nice, always appreciative and willing to teach.  He was one of a kind, and will be missed.  Rest in peace Marv. Thank you for being a part of my life. (Justin S. Pallamary)

Just wanted to pass on our condolences to the family on Marv's passing .
Marv has been a long time friend of both my father and myself over the years. 
We had the pleasure of working with Marv during his time with many different firms, he was always a pleasure.
He will be missed.

Marvin's legacy of contribution to the people of the Land Surveying profession benefits us now and will continue for generations.   Always encouraging young people to get involved, contributing his time and efforts and extending his generosity,  Marvin improved us all.  As a mentor,  he was a gentleman with a positive, inviting demeanor that was impossible to ignore.  When I recall how many trips, flights,  meals and laughs I've had with Marv one points stands out:  He made every minute enjoyable and rewarding.  What a great friend he was to me.

Very saddened to hear about Marv's passing. I still remember him picking me up at work for a drive out to San Vicente Reservoir to view the improvements to the dam. Just a classy guy, very personable, knowledgable, etc.  He will be missed very much. From one agency land surveyor, he was damn good.

Marv and I usually crossed paths each morning near the coffee machine between our departments. When teleworking ends and we return to the office, that part of my morning will not be the same without Marv.

Marv was an amazing individual with a ready smile and willingness to help anyone.  It was my pleasure to work with Marv for 11 years and see his passion and dedication to the Water Authority, ensuring that our pipelines and facilities were protected.  His energy and engagement will be missed.  I will miss seeing him ride his motorcycle in Alpine and waving as I am out walking.

I first met Marv 12 plus years ago while working at the Water Authority.  I will miss the conversations we had about the importance of land surveying for successful designs and construction and the dedication he had to his craft as well as the Water Authority.  There was no one I trusted more in the land surveying world.  I will also miss his friendly demeanor and lending hand for anyone that needed help.  He will be greatly missed but not forgotten.  My thoughts and prayers go out to the Sylakowski family as they mourn this great loss. 

My deepest condolences to Marvin's family.  I am a colleague at the Water Authority. He had a great smile and attitude every morning I see him in the hallways of our headquarters.  He is a kind person and I'm sure he will be dearly missed.
May he rest in peace. 

Marv always took his work seriously and was a consummate professional, but was just as quick with a smile and a joke and went out of his way to assist colleagues whenever he could.  He was a great asset to the work family at the Water Authority.  But, my best memories of Marv will always be at the El Cajon Oktoberfest, pouring German beers on "Team SDCWA" (see photo).  The comradery, laughs, and team building at that annual event will stay with me, and Marv was a big reason for that. He was a good human, and you always felt good when in his company.  We will miss him greatly. 

I will always remember Marv for his positive outlook, his humor and most of all his caring for his fellow friends and workers.  I had the pleasure of working with Marv since 2012 and always admired his willingness to take on any challenge.  Marv, may you rest in peace and may your family find peace and comfort knowing  how much you were respected,

To Marv’s family   Please accept my condolences on his passing.  As his coworker for many years before I retired last year, Marv and I had great conversations about the best and worst restaurants in San Diego.  Marv always wanted recommendations for the best ones.  I told him about Cafe Bleu which he loved.  Sadly it’s now permanently closed.  Here is Marv wishing me the best at my retirement party last year.

I am sad to hear about Marv.  I enjoyed working with him at LMA.  Marv was always friendly and genuine.  Wishing his family and friends strength during this difficult time.

Marv was a gentle soul, and a wonderful, comfortable personality.   Always accepting and easy to be around.   His entire persona was a class act.  I don't remember the first time I met Marv, but I know that on a number of occasions  we shared our cordiality and discussed various topics while at CLSA dinners, etc.   I can never forget Marv and am very grateful that I had the chance to know him.  He is decidedly a person who bends the arc of human interactions in a positive direction.  Rest in Peace Marv.  My condolences to his family and friends.

Our survey community was always blessed with the ever present smile and warm friendliness that Marv always filled a room with.... and he went above and beyond to volunteer when help was needed year after year.. a generous soul making places better because he was there....Im very sad  and  offer heartfelt sympathy to his family... 

I worked with Marv several years ago. He was is a part of some really good memories at LMA. My heart is broken for his family and friends left behind.

To my long time friend and colleague, you will be greatly missed but not forgotten.  Rest in peace.  My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. 

Marv always had a smile to share and professionalism to generously contribute. He will be missed by many. I remember getting our return flights from Sacramento canceled at the end of a long day. Marv made a couple hours at the SMF bar the most enjoyable flight delay I've ever experienced.

I knew John from the California Land Surveyor's Association meetings in Oakland. He was always a pleasant smiling and engaging person. Although he surveyed in the San Diego area , we had that common bond of professionals dedicated to making our association better. John was always sharing the business of our profession with the younger surveyors. He was a quiet man, but not afraid to voice his opinion and right the wrongs of the world.

Although we met only quarterly at our meetings, he always greeted me with a smile a strong handshake and a hug. He was a good man, a good surveyor, and a friend to many. He touched many people's lives. 

God bless you John, for your impact on my life.  My heart goes out to his family, during these difficult times. Peace be with you all,  and thanks for sharing him with us.

You were a decade long friend and mentor and always greeted me with a happy smile at the IRWA lunches and CLSA meetings. I will never forget your help guiding me through several difficult times upon my return from St Louis. Thank you for that. You will be missed. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.  

I’m truly saddened by this news. Marv has been a good friend and mentor to me for the past 15 years. There hasn’t been a 3 month period that has went by that I have not needed Marv’s guidance and expertise in my career. No matter what the topic, surveying, motorcycles, Marv was just great to be around and talk to. I will miss Marv giving me a hard time upon greetings with a wink and a sincere handshake. I have all of Marv’s family and friends in my heart and thoughts through this difficult time. 

A mentor and a good friend gone too soon.  Marv will be forever remembered and constantly missed.  My condolences to all of the family and every friend left behind.
