Rudy was born on October 22, 1944 in Fort Frances, ON. He grew up in Couchiching F.N. and as a young man spent many years working in Sandy Bay and Sagkeeng F.N. He returned to the Rainy River District to work as Band manager of Naicatchewenin First Nation. It was then that Rudy returned to Couchiching First Nation with his family, building a home he loved on Gabe’s Road. He then went on to develop and establish many Tribal Agencies such as the United Native Friendship Centre, Health Access Centre, FFTAHA, Rainy Lake Group Home, Oh-Shki-be-ma-te-ze-win Inc, Chiefs Secretariat and Weechi-it-te-win Family Services. Rudy also worked as District Manager of Indian Affairs in Fort Frances and Executive Director of Ohshki. Rudy was very committed and took pride in his community, which lead him to be elected as Chief of Couchiching F.N. for 2 terms. He loved to take the time to support and guide the younger generations of Couchiching. Rudy was well known and made many friends from many places over the years. He enjoyed travelling, cooking, listening to music and spending time outdoors but most of all cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren.
He leaves to mourn his children Derek Mainville (Jane) and his children Daniel, Olivia, Sonny, Rosaleigh, and Thomas; Robert Morrisseau (Danielle)and his children Mardina and Jaidan and only daughter Kirsten "Kutz" Morrisseau (Jeremiah) and her children Carter, Teagen, Abigail and Mia and his adopted son Abe Hardy; He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren Trenton, Taryn and Taliah. He also leaves behind several nieces who were such a great help over the last few years while he was struggling.
Rudy was predeceased by his parents Alex and Marjorie Morrisseau; son Rudy "Dudaa" Morrisseau Jr. and siblings Mabel Bruyere, Melvin, Elton Morrisseau and Jim Banks.
Honorary Pallbearers are Steve and Iris Jourdain, Barb Calder, Colleen Smith, Will Morrisseau, Dan Mainville, Brian Perrault, Tons (Gilbert) Perreault, Janice Parks, Donna Hayes and Lorraine Smith.
Due to COVID 19 Restrictions, a private family service will be held with a public memorial to be held at a later date.
