Celia Vigil, 71, gained her heavenly wings on Thursday, January 7, 2021. She was born on January 14, 1949 to Manual and Petra Melendez. She married Phillip Vigil, Sr. on January 11, 1963 and together they had a beautiful family of six and raised them in Westbrook. For many years, she worked inside and outside the home. She worked for Westbrook Independent School District and for the Mitchell County Hospital District; both serving students and staff as well as the community. Making people feel welcomed was her daily mantra. She carried herself with grace and gratitude; in good and bad times. She lived by example of kindness and humility. Whether it was late at night or the middle of the morning, she never let anyone who visited her go hungry without a warm meal for their health and soul. She always had a smile on her face and always had stories to tell about her time working in the fields; a sacrifice she would make in order for her kids to have better. Celia never let anyone down at all; and would go to extreme measures to help family or friends find a way when they needed anything. She loved her family gracefully and forgave tremendously. She was passionate about keeping everyone together and celebrating anything with anyone. It could be the birthdays or graduations of grandchildren, great-grandchild’s birthdays, or anyone receiving a promotion; she was going to celebrate with you. She never lost her faith anytime in her life. She kept her faith till her last breath as she was welcomed home by Jesus. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Celia leaves behind her loving husband, Phillip Vigil Sr. She was the loving mother to: Phillip Vigil Jr. and wife Stacy of Abilene, Felix Vigil and wife Samantha of Abilene, Rosie Lain and husband Kenneth Hagins of Big Spring, Sandra Yanas and husband Mario II of Westbrook, Christina Rivera and husband Artie of Colorado City, and JoAnn Barrera and husband Ramsey of Colorado City. Also, those left to cherish her memories are her grandkids: Amanda, Arthur, Gabriel, Michael, Zachary, Muranda, Natalie, Kamrun, Bailey, Regan, Corbin, Zaiden, Jalee, Aries, Ayden, Brayden, and Rylan as well as by 4 great-grandsons, and brothers Arturo Melendez and wife of Irma of Colorado City and Jose Melendez and wife Janie of Colorado City, and by nieces and nephews; that she loved with her whole heart. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister. Even though she is not here on earth, she will be watching us all from Heaven.
