Keith Kirkwood Goldsmith

Keith was born June 3, 1931, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Fred and Helen (Kirkwood) Goldsmith. Keith graduated from Albia High School in 1949. Following high school, he attended the University of Northern Iowa. Keith took time away from college to join the United States Navy where he served from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War. While in the Navy, Keith served aboard the U.S.S. Hobson.

Keith married the love of his life, Peggy Humeston on February 9, 1954 in Baltimore, Maryland. Following his discharge from the Navy, they returned to Iowa where Keith graduated from the University of Iowa in 1957 with a degree in History. After graduation, Keith and Peggy moved to Des Moines where Keith joined the Bankers Life Insurance Company which later became The Principal Financial Group where he worked until his retirement in 1993.

Keith was a member of St. Augustin Catholic Church in Des Moines. He was an avid golfer, loved to travel, read and spend time with his family. He spent many years coaching baseball at Raccoon Valley and was a past president of the Dowling Club which supports extracurricular activities at Dowling Catholic High School.

He is survived by his five children, Peter Andrew Goldsmith (Carol), Paul Matthew Goldsmith (Leslie), Philip James Goldsmith (Julie), Thomas John Goldsmith (Kelly) and Mary Regina (Gina) Graham (Chris); grandchildren, Karen Goldsmith Johnson (Luke) and Mark Goldsmith, Bryan Goldsmith (Kate) and Rebecca Goldsmith (Rajee Harris), Nick Goldsmith and Amanda Goldsmith, Emma Goldsmith and Ally Goldsmith, Evan Carver and Abby Carver; great grandchildren Rose and Lincoln Johnson, Blake and Drew Goldsmith. Keith was preceded in death by Peggy, his wife of 62 years, his parents, his brother Kay and father-in-law and mother-in-law Dwight and Mary Humeston.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Augustin Catholic School, Dowling Catholic High School or Des Moines Area Religious Council.
