Albert Paul Serruto

Albert “Al” P. Serruto, 97, of East Hartford, loving husband of 56 years of the late Lucille (LaBonte) Serruto, peacefully entered into eternal life on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Manchester Manor. Born in Norwich on October 27, 1923, a son of the late Vincenzo and Lucia (Longo) Serruto, he had been a resident of East Hartford for 62 years prior to moving into Manchester Manor. Al was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Al was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy, class of 1941 and earned his B.S. Degree in Accounting from the University of Connecticut in 1950. After graduating from UConn, Al went to work at the Veteran’s Home and Hospital in Rocky Hill where he met his wife, Lucille, and true love for many years. After the VA Hospital, Al embarked on a career with the state of Connecticut-Department of Education where he retired as a Chief Accountant after over 40 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Society of Governmental Accountants and the Connecticut State Employees Association. He also was a long time member of the former B.P.O.E. Lodge #2063 of East Hartford and the East Hartford Southend Seniors. Al was a talented ten-pin bowler who participated in many leagues at the Silver Lane Bowling Alley, an avid golfer in his retirement years, and a lifelong loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox. A devout Catholic, Al was a faithful and generous communicant of St. Christopher Church, East Hartford where he was a member of the church Men’s Club and Adult Social Club.

Al is lovingly remembered by his four daughters, Mary L. Yenor and her husband Michael of Manchester, Barbara A. Robinson and her husband Fred of East Hartford, Ellen Serruto Tanguay and her husband James of Glastonbury, Christine S. Healy of Macungie, PA; two sons, Michael P. Serruto and his wife Lisa Olson of Aurora, CO, Thomas M. Serruto and his wife Laura of Glenn Ellyn, IL; a sister-in-law, Angelina Serruto of Norwich; a brother-in-law, Donald LaBonte and his wife J. Patricia of Moosup; fifteen cherished grandchildren; nine adored great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Along with his beloved wife and parents, Al was predeceased by his three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral service will be Friday (January 15, 2021) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at St. Christopher Church of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 538 Brewer Street, East Hartford. (Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church on Friday morning). Burial with military honors will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, (Section H), East Hartford. Al’s family will receive relatives and friends at the D’ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford on Thursday (January 14, 2021) from 4 – 6 pm. Due to the current health pandemic, all visitors are required to wear a face covering and adhere to all health regulations, which include a limited number of visitors inside the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Albert’s name may be made to Juvenile Diabetes (JDRF Mid-Atlantic Chapter), 1400 K Street NW, Suite 1200, Washington, D.C. 20005. Al’s family would like to give a special “Thumbs Up” to the doctors, nurses, and entire staff at the Manchester Manor for their professionalism, care, love, and compassion given to Al and his entire family.
