Mr. Elkins passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the Col. Robert L. Howard Veterans Home in Pell City.
Survivors include his sons, Donald W. Elkins (Angela), Dewey Elkins (Kim) and Huey Elkins (Shena); daughters, Deanna Minton (Kevin) and Donna Morgan; grandchildren, Wesley Elkins (Carmen), Courtney Black (Tyler), Zachary Wooten, Canaan Elkins (Katie), Landon Elkins (Kaylynn), William Benjamin Elkins, and Jonathan Morgan (Ceresa); several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Ronnie Elkins; and many other great-nieces and nephews, friends and other relatives.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul O. Elkins and Alice Secrets Spaulding; his brother, Ronald Elkins; sister, Betty Peters; and daughter, Karen Elkins.
Donald M. Elkins was born on March 5, 1932, in Coal City, Indiana, and raised in Spencer, Indiana. He enlisted in the United States Army as a young teenager, fought in the Korean Conflict, and was later stationed at Fort McClellan. During his time at Fort McClellan, he opened a business in Anniston and made Calhoun County his home. He owned and operated Elkins Auto Parts in Wellborn for over 50 years.
Don will be remembered for his hard work ethic. He enjoyed antique cars, watching NASCAR and religious programs. In the last years of his life, he started attending Weaver Church of God and later became a devoted member of Alexandria Emmanuel Holiness Church.
