My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." Psalm 73:26. Mary Ellen Abraham Juban's life of service to her Lord and her family ended on Sunday, May 12, 2024, as she passed peacefully into the arms of God on Mother's Day. She was 76, born July 29, 1947, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She grew up in Port Gibson, Mississippi, and then attended LSU where she met her husband, Phillip Juban, a Baton Rouge native. She brought her Mississippian southern belle charm into the city, but Port Gibson remained a special place in her heart. Mary Ellen was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, the Junior League of Baton Rouge, and the Wit and Wisdom Study Club. Mary Ellen was a faithful daughter of Christ and member of First Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed the fellowship of Christian friends in Bible studies and Circle gatherings. Mary Ellen was a pillar of love and strength in her family, always putting the needs of her loved ones above her own. Her warm smile, gentle words, and comforting presence were constants in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and husband. Mary Ellen, affectionately known as Emmie to her seven grandchildren, found the most joy in being surrounded by her family, whether it was gathering around the dinner table enjoying one of her wonderful meals, sharing stories, celebrating birthdays, shopping with her granddaughters, or vacationing with all the grandchildren at the Grand Hotel in Fairhope, Alabama. Emmie will live forever in the hearts and memories of all who were blessed to know her. The power of her loving example will not be forgotten. Mary Ellen is survived by her husband of 53 years Phillip Juban, daughter Catherine Jumonville and her husband Clayton, son Michael Juban and his wife Kristin; seven grandchildren - Mary Clayton, Ruthie, Elle, Riley, Jillian, Charlie, and Evelyn- and sister Martha Seamster. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Alice Abraham. The family gratefully acknowledges the devoted care given by Serena Mason over many years; by Lusenda Carney, Norma Matos, and the staff of Sunrise Senior Living during her last two years; and by Hospice of Baton Rouge during her last precious days. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 16, at First Presbyterian Church, 763 North Boulevard, at 11:00. Visitation will begin at 9:30. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the First Presbyterian Church Foundation, 763 North Boulevard, Baton Rouge, LA 70802.
