Miguel A. Castro, Sr., affectionately known as "Papu," began his journey in Amapala, Honduras, and peacefully passed away on May 05, 2024, to join his celestial family—his cherished wife Otilia, his adored daughter Gina Castro Adams, and his parents Leonidas Castro and Martina Corrales Castro.
Papu's legacy of love and strength lives on through his children: Miguel A. Castro, Jr. (Candice), Christiam A. Castro (Heidy), Dax S. Castro (Karla), Candice “Manuela” Castro; and his son-in-law, Quinton Adams. His life’s joy, his 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, will forever cherish his memory. His siblings Mario (Maria Teresa), Silvia, Rosaura, Leonidas, Soledad, and Guillermo Castro, along with countless nieces and nephews, also survive him.
Born as one of the youngest siblings, Papu faced the indescribable loss of his mother at an early age and grew up with limited paternal presence, his father being a merchant marine traversing the seas. His upbringing was a communal effort, lovingly guided by his older siblings and various aunts and uncles. Despite these challenges, his unyielding spirit and tenacity led him to pursue higher education, earning a college degree that paved the way to a distinguished career at Banco Atlántida in Honduras.
Miguel's life was enriched profoundly when he wed the love of his life, Otilia, on May 15, 1971. Together, they embraced the joys of parenthood, a journey that eventually took them to the United States to be closer to Otilia’s family. Starting anew in a foreign land, Miguel's profound devotion to his family saw him embrace various roles, each echoing his relentless commitment to provide for his loved ones. Following in his father’s maritime footsteps later in life, he dedicated himself to the seas until his retirement.
Miguel's life was a testament to resilience and unconditional love, qualities that he upheld until his very last breath. His memory remains a beacon of inspiration and heartfelt devotion, lighting the way for all who knew and loved him.
He will be celebrated on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Greenoaks Funeral Home from 5-7pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 1:30 pm until funeral service at 3 pm. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Please visit www.greenoaksfunerals.com to leave condolences to the family.
