Dave was born on September 6, 1946 in Manhattan, Kansas. He attended Manhattan High School where he was known for his athletic endeavors on the track, football, and basketball teams. After high school, he attended Kansas State University and earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. During his time at Kansas State he met Janet Marks and they were wed in 1967. Dave and Janet welcomed their Daughter, Christine “Christy”, in August 1970.
Dave was known for his strong work ethic and spent over 25 years working at Bendix, now called Honeywell. Dave retired the same year his grandson, Kyle, was born. Dave’s golden years were spent supporting his family wherever he could. Dave would be found sitting at every one of Kyle’s baseball practices and school events. Once his granddaughter, Kelsey, was born he continued to cherish his role as Papop.
In his final years, Dave enjoyed spending days with his cat, Midnight, who he inherited from his beloved sister Nancy, after her passing in 2018. He relished calling the family together to share stories of their past and his memories. He faithfully played the Powerball and MegaMillions with a plan to win and give his family and loved ones a worry-free life. Dave was a man who spent his years caring for others, even on his final day making sure Kyle remembered to take care of the lawn. His family is honored to carry on his legacy by caring for each other through his example of love.
Dave is survived by his wife Janet Becraft of the home; daughter Christy Becraft of Belton, MO; grandson Kyle Becraft and his wife Callie of Mission, KS, granddaughter Kelsey Becraft and her fiancé Travis Darby of Independence, MO; two great-grandchildren Taelynn and Tatum Darby, and his beloved companion, Midnight. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Bernice Becraft, and his sister Nancy McConnell.
The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life with details forthcoming in the near future for all who wish to honor his memory.
