She was born in Arlington, VA, on March 15, 1942.
Jan was a member of GWRRA (Gold Wing Road Riders Association). She loved her family, friends, cats, cooking, music, sewing, quilting, crocheting, and knitting. At different periods of her life she was an avid dancer, skier, tennis player, runner and motorcyclist. She was a real "people person" and made friends as easily as a bird flies.
Jan taught 6th grade English in Nutley, NJ from '65-'67, high school English at Passaic Valley in Little Falls, NJ from '74-'84, and was a librarian & media specialist from '84 - '96 at P.V., Kinnelon, & Paramus, where she setup CD ROM servers and internet in all three libraries and earned a bachelor’s degree and two master's degrees from Barnard/Fairleigh Dickinson University (undergrad) in the process.
Her father, Ralph Hardiman, was a colonel in the army who served in WW2 and Korea. Her mother, Gertrude (Page), was once the personal secretary of Nelson Rockefeller. Together with her brother David, they moved and lived all over the country and the world, including several years in Germany after WW2. Mom loved to recount how she would play in Heidelberg Castle as a child.
She is survived by her husband Joe Mazza, her son Adam Miller and his wife Terri Miller and their kids Kyle Miller and Caitlin Miller. Jan is also survived by her stepson Joe Mazza Jr., his wife Katie Mazza and their kids Nick and Anthony.
Jan was predeceased by her older brother David W. Hardiman.
