Williamsville, NY – May 12, 2024 at age 94.
Don was born in 1930 in Irondequoit, NY and went to school at Seneca Elementary School and Charlotte High School. He obtained a B.A in Business at the University of Rochester, where he met Loddie, the love of his life. He served three years with the Air Force in Laredo, TX. He and Loddie married in 1954 on Long Island and celebrated their 64th anniversary before her death in 2018. Marge was born in Texas in 1955. Later that year, they moved back to his home city of Rochester and settled in Irondequoit. He worked for 37 years as an accountant at the Rochester Gas & Electric while bringing up their four girls.
Don was a kind, patient and caring man with everyone he met. He was treasurer at The Irondequoit Church of Christ for many years. His interests and hobbies included: bridge (he was a Master’s bridge player), golf (playing in his younger years and frequently choosing winners of PGA events his whole life), stamp collecting, jigsaw puzzling and listening attentively to all the women in his life. He was annoyingly good at trivia of all kinds. Don and Loddie went on over 30 vacations with his life-long friend, Dave, and his wife, Grace. Don loved to watch old movies on Turner Classics and could still play a mean game of Yahtzee even in his final days.
Donald is survived by his 4 daughters, Marjorie (late Corey), Karen (Donato), Jan (Kris) and Lisa (Drew); and his 5 grandchildren; Danielle, Scott, & Anna Grace; and Ryan & Jason. He is preceded in death by his wife, Loddie; twin brother, Robert; sister, Mary; and son-in-law, Corey.
Any donations in Don’s memory can be sent to the Irondequoit United Church of Christ, 644 Titus Ave., Rochester, NY 14617 where his cremains will be interred. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family in the near future.
