My Aunt Maryann’s last good memory of him was when he came to San Antonio, and we drove my corvette to Boerne. He had an interesting life serving in the Army but worked for the Navy. He had many great stories about life on a tugboat. He somehow managed after 3 years to get an Honorable Discharge! He served during the Cuban Missile crisis. After his time in the Army, he joined the Merchant Marines serving on a ship that tracked satellites and the space capsules in our early space program. He then worked for Siemens in their electronics and communications dept as an engineer until retirement.
Howard was one of the most brilliant people you could ever know and the goofiest. One time in high school, he coordinated moving his teacher’s car into the shop area and suspending it from the ceiling. He was also an avid scuba diver once finding a gas cylinder in the ocean off Atlantic City. It caused quite a stir in the neighborhood when it was determined to be an explosive! He loved his model trains and built the most spectacular displays. He continued with this hobby until the last few years. He always had a “Joke of the Day” for anyone that wanted to listen.
He will be greatly missed by his daughters Dea and Deedee. He is also survived by his sister Maryann Lejia, her husband Dan and daughter Kristen. As well as his two grandchildren Alex and Allee Steele. He is now in Heaven joyfully reunited with his wife Jo, his parents and other relatives of the Stevenson and Hall clans.
