Charles F. Wennogle, Sr., passed away on May 7, 2024, at his home in Aurora, Colorado with his wife of 57 years by his side. He died of natural causes at the age of 81. He was born on November 18, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to John and Mary Kathryn Wennogle, and had two sisters and three brothers. He attended several grade schools and high schools, but graduated from Summit High School in Summit, New Jersey before attending Merrimack College in Boston, Massachusetts.
At Merrimack College he met Maureen Brennan, who would later become his wife. They married during his 2nd year in his graduate degree program at Columbia University School of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. There he received his DDS degree. Afterwards he served his internship at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City, then two years of residency in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program. He went on to serve in the Air Force as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He and Maureen had their first child, Chuck Jr., in 1969, and their second, Dan, in 1974. Then in 1975, inspired by a trip through the Rocky Mountains, he and Maureen moved to Colorado, where they would have two more children, K.C. and Marc, and where he would open his own Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Practice that thrived for over 40 years until he retired.
He made many lifelong friends in Colorado, hosting an annual Christmas Eve Party for 40 years straight and making many friends pursuing his love of Golf at Valley Country Club and elsewhere. A lover of the outdoors, he took his family on ski trips and hiking trip throughout Colorado. He also loved sports and never missed a game when any of his four athletic sons played, usually filming and cheering from the sidelines or stands. He took hundreds and hundreds of photographs of his family, which was his greatest joy, and his house was filled with them. His love for life and adventure, and his tenacity and hard work made impressions on his whole extended family and group of friends. He will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen, his sons, Chuck, Dan (Sarah), K.C. and Marc (Carly), his grandchildren Luke, Joey, Matthew, Graham, Hazel, Sean, Brennan and Nora, and his brothers Larry and Tom. He was also survived by his brother John, who then passed one week later.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Anne and Kathy, and by his granddaughter Veronica.
He received incredible help from caregivers in his final years, including Laura, Ari, Leslie, Robert and Iuna, and the family is thankful to them for their gracious care. He also held two organizations close to his heart.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcome to either or both of these organizations: Mending Faces and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
