When Rafe was just 18, she alone found the courage to set foot in New Mexico to begin her journey. With the help of a friend she secured employment working as a maid and nanny for a family in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
She met the love of her life, Hilario Alarcon, whom she married in November 1957. Always looking for opportunities to make a better life, she and Dad moved to Colorado. They worked on a farm until 1963, and then moved to Commerce City where she would live the remainder of her life. She loved her husband and stood by his side in life and in spirit until her last breath.
Rafe's biggest virtues were her unwavering faith, the love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, followed by her work ethic. She worked for Rose Medical Center until they closed the laundry facility and transferred to Hospital Cooperative. Rafe retired but not for long, as she found janitorial employment at UPS in the evenings until she was close to 80 years of age.
She gave all her love through compassion, wisdom and encouragement to her daughter, two sons, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Rafe lives though all of us. Her love of life, positive attitude and unselfish forgiving nature is a lesson we and all who knew her will forever cherish in our hearts.
Let us celebrate this woman who touched so many lives. Visitation for Rafe will be held on Thursday, May 16th from 9:00 to 10:00 AM followed by a rosary, funeral services and interment next to her husband. The location is: Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 6601 S. Colorado Blvd., Centennial, CO 80121
