Sidney was the Vice President of his 1951 High School graduating class in Melbourne, IA and played on the basketball team and the football team. Sid enlisted in the Air Force following graduation and served his country for 20 years and earned numerous training certificates, including Master Instructor. After retirement, he moved to Pascagoula, MS where he briefly worked at the shipyard. Then he moved to Fort Walton Beach, FL working as a calibration technician at Keltech. He relocated to Chapin, SC and took on the task of constructing his own house. After completing that project, he started his fourth career at VC Summer Nuclear Plant, then finally retired to pursue his love of golf.
Sid was predeceased by his wife, Mary Theresa Harrand of Chapin SC, and is survived by his two daughters, Rebecca Harrand Fass of Mesa, AZ, and Christy Harrand Brasington (Bill) of Chapin, SC. He has three grandsons: Christopher Michael Webb (Tracy) of Pomaria, SC, Shawn Christopher Vogel (Kim) of Chapin, SC, and John Adam Vogel (Yanira) of Ensenada, Baja California. He has seven great-grandchildren: Taylor, Tyler, Christy, Christopher, Sebastian, Ashley, Kaleb, and two great-great grandchildren, Violet and Clarity Rose.
A service of celebration for a life well lived will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, May 20, 2024, at Lake Murray Evangelical Church, 501 Murray Lindler Road, Chapin, SC 29036, with a visitation to take place one hour prior to the service.
Memorials can be made to Lake Murray Evangelical Church. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
