Erica was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, on September 27, 1951, to George and Eileen Clarke. She grew up in Jo’burg and Cape Town, SA, and lived in London prior to coming to America in 1983. After several years in NYC, she settled in Chatham in 1991 with her husband Harry and “son” Nelson, a West Highland terrier.
Erica had a storied career, spanning years as studio manager at DeZitter Photographic Studio, realtor with Ricotta & Associates and Pine Acres, and interior decorator at her own business, Beachstone Interiors. She also co-owned retail stores Midsummer Nights in Chatham and South in Duxbury with Sarah Rhinesmith, her partner and dear friend.
Traveling was at the top of the list of things Erica loved, followed by cooking, gardening and spending time with her multitude of friends—not necessarily in that order. Erica will be remembered most for her caring and generous nature. Her ability to connect with people of all walks of life—including political persuasions—was legendary.
Contributions in her name may be made to the Animal Rescue League, 3981 Main Street, Brewster, MA 02631.
Erica’s final wish for those who loved her was to vote for Joe Biden.
