Roy Irvin Dow, a long-time resident of Chowchilla, California went home to be with the Lord on the 7th of May 2024, at the age of 92. He passed peacefully at the care home he was currently at in Corona, California with his grandson by his side.
Roy was born on September 20, 1931, in Prineville, Oregon to his parents, Grant and Lela Dow. Roy was the second of eight siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents Grant and Lela, brother Roland, sisters Carolyn, Gloria, Neta and Roberta. He was also preceded in death by his second wife of 34 years Virginia, his third wife of 10 years Gracie and Grandson William Kelly. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and a man of GOD.
Roy is survived by his first wife of 13 years Marjorie, two sisters, Neda and Patty and all his loving children Robin Kelly of Marysville, Ca, Rick Dow (Karen) of Rome GA, Lisa Watland (Andrew) of Barbourville, KY, Wes Scott (Kim) of Fargo ND, Darlene Winnie of Fair Oaks, CA, Duane Scott (Juanita) of Dewey AZ, Stepchildren Becky Young (Greg) of Indio, CA, David Ross (Angie) of Madera, CA, and Karen Shipman (Eddie) of Chowchilla, CA. He is also survived by 31 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Roy, a remarkable man who wore many hats throughout his life’s journey. Having served his country in the Navy with honor and bravery, Roy exemplified the values of duty and sacrifice. After his service, he embraced the challenges of civilian life, transitioning seamlessly into roles as a logger, Southern Pacific lineman, farmer, mechanic, and jack of all trades. His hands were always busy, his mind ever curious, and his spirit resilient in the face of adversity.
Roy attended Cathedral of Faith and Assembly of God in Chowchilla where he was a deacon for many years, he was a lifetime member at the VFW chowchilla, and he was a active member of the Chowchilla Senior Center where he held the position of President for a couple years.
Roy had lots of love and support for his family. His children remember him as an unwavering source of guidance and affection, while his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were blessed with his playful wisdom and unconditional love. As an uncle and brother, he offered unwavering loyalty and camaraderie, embodying the true essence of family bonds.
Roy was more than just a man of many talents; he was a beacon of kindness and compassion in a world often clouded by darkness. His generosity knew no bounds, his laughter echoed through generations, and his presence brought warmth to every room he entered.
