Mary Eloise Cotten of Hurst passed peacefully on May 10, 2024 in Fort Worth, Texas. Eloise was born to J.C. and Lillie B. Stokes on May 22, 1925 in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. The family moved to Texas in her childhood where she lived the remainder of her life.
Eloise graduated from Leonard High School in 1943 and in 1946 completed her BS degree in business administration from East Texas State University, now Texas A&M Commerce.
She began her professional career at the FAA where she met Charles E. Cotten, truly the love of her life. They married in 1949 and were blessed with 67 years of marriage.
Eloise continued her career with the National Weather Service, completing 30 years of service as a Contract Specialist and retired in 1981.
Family and faith were of utmost importance to Eloise. She and Charles took very active roles of leadership and service in their church.
They were charter members of the Midtown Church of Christ, and later became members at Legacy Church of Christ.
Eloise continually gave of herself to her family and others in most loving and unselfish ways.
She was an amazing daughter, wife, and mother who showed care and love continuously. Her grandchildren treasured her because she absolutely adored them. Eloise took much pride in her great grandchildren as well, always making them aware of their importance to her. Extended family members also held a very important place in her heart as she gave of herself in a variety of ways.
She and Charles loved this country and it’s beauty. After retirement they were able to travel extensively with family and friends, touring all of the contiguous states.
Eloise will definitely be missed by all who were blessed to have had her in their life. She was a most capable, charming, giving woman who exemplified her faith daily. She was blessed by God with strength, perseverance, and unwavering faith in times of hardship.
She also enjoyed many years of a wonderful and blessed life that she was most thankful for.
Eloise was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Morris Stokes. She is survived by her daughter Cindy Maloney and husband Keith of Argyle, grandson Chris Maloney and wife Christina of Tyler, granddaughter Laura Pierce and husband Jordan of Fort Worth, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Legacy Church of Christ benevolent fund.
Visitation for Mary will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 1:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 2:00 at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. Interment will follow the funeral service at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, 5725 Colleyville Boulevard, Colleyville, Texas.
