Michele passed away peacefully on May 3rd, 2024, from health complications resulting in a severe lung infection. She was born in 1949 to Robert and Shirley Dean in Chicago, Illinois. She grew up in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and graduated from Conant High School. After graduation, she attended the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Michele is survived by her husband of 52 years, Steven Yopp, her two children, Michael (Jennifer) Yopp and Stephanie (Rob) Dewing, and her five grandchildren, Autumn and Nicholas Yopp, and Zachary, Chloe, and Olivia Dewing, all of whom she loved and adored.
She spent much of her married life in Crystal Lake, Illinois, where she raised her two children while owning and managing the Children’s Closet clothing and gift store. In addition, she was an active member of the Crystal Lake Jaycee Auxiliary, where she met many lifelong friends.
Michele always enjoyed returning to Colorado following her studies there, so when both of her children ended up moving to Colorado Springs (and grandkids started coming!), she and Steve decided to join them in 2003.
Though her favorite times were spent with her family, Michele also loved camping, traveling, and especially crafting. She enjoyed Navajo weaving, knitting, coiling, basketry, and making many beautiful things that her whole family will continue to cherish and enjoy.
Something we will always remember about Michele is how much she loved the holidays. She would be sure her house was well-decorated for every special occasion. In addition to baking and gathering with loved ones, she made everyone around her feel extra special.
We will forever miss her infectious smile and loving concern for others. As a role model, she set a high bar for all of us to emulate. She was loved by all who knew her.
No formal services are planned at this time.
