Nettie “Jean” Sapp, 88, of Columbia, passed away on May 10, 2024, at Boone Hospital. Services will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Memorial Funeral Home, visitation beginning at 10am and service at 11am with entombment to follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
Jean was born in Sturgeon, Missouri on July 15, 1935, to George Thomas Seymour and Gladys Pearl (Pulis) Seymour. She graduated from Sturgeon High School, class of 1953, one of 12 graduates that year. On June 7, 1996, she was united in marriage to Wayne Sapp, also of Columbia.
Jean was a lifelong resident of Boone County and worked as a medical secretary/transcriptionist most of her career, eventually retiring from Harry S. Truman Memorial Veteran’s Hospital.
Jean is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 28 years, Wayne, and the children of their blended family: Teresa Singleton, Cheryl (Jim) Haynie, Kenneth (Lisa) Sapp, Teresa (Rick) Briedwell, Kevin (Lena) Sapp, Troy Sapp along with 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Jean was anxiously awaiting the birth of another great-granddaughter who is expected on Jean’s birthday.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: George Thomas “Junior” Seymour, Dale Seymour, Kathleen Glass, William “Billy” Seymour, twin sister Jane Tinker, Betty Patrick, son-in-law, Tom Singleton and grandson, Scott Haynie.
