Pedro H. Vargas Jr (Pete) born and raised in Sinton, Texas on September 7, 1953, passed away peacefully at his home in Corpus Christi, Texas surrounded by family on May 2, 2024 at the age of 70. He is a proud Alumnus of Sinton High School, where he was part of many clubs and extracurricular activities such as the marching band, track and football.
A proud Veteran of the Army, a Sergeant and Green Beret of the 101st Airborne Division from 1973 to
1977. His last overseas service was stationed in Germany; where he met his loving wife Marion, married
April 15, 1977. Their love story is one for the books. A handsome military man met a local beauty and
swept her off her feet, their love was unconditional.
After being honorably discharged from the military, he started his career in 1988 at the Corpus Christi
Army Depot, where he was an inspector for Military helicopters, later retired in 2012. He was a member
of The Veterans Band of the Coastal Bend and after was Co-Founder of The Patriots Band & Honor
Guard of America, Inc. playing the saxophone and his infamous reciting of “The Unknown Solider” to
honor the soldiers from the Vietnam War.
Pedro was one of kind, he was a mentor a leader and most importantly a loving husband, father,
grandfather better known as Popa, son, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his beautiful wife of
47 years, Marion his Schatz; his four amazing children; daughter Jessica (Orlando) Vargas; daughter
Tiffany (Randy) Ramirez; son Christopher (Valerie) Vargas; and daughter Vanessa (Steve) Davila; his two
sisters Hilda Lester and Christina (Martin) Vargas and brother Edward (Maggie) Vargas; 13 loving
grandchildren and 1 great-grand daughter, along with his nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pedro is preceded in death by his father Pedro R. Vargas Sr. and his mother Guadalupe H. Vargas.
Funeral services will be on Monday, May 20, 2024 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Memory Gardens Funeral
Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Rd in Corpus Christi, followed by an Honors Ceremony at 11:00 am at
Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 IH 37 Access Road in Corpus Christi, where he will remain
in our hearts forever and always.
Everyone who knew him loved him, his endless stories about life and advice. His humor and contagious
laugh. He will be dearly missed by everyone. He was the definition of a living legend.
