Sandra Cecilia Dyer passed away peacefully on May 13, 2024. She was born on August 14, 1938 in Modesto, California, the only child of Clifford and Estelle Dawes. The family moved early on to live in Coulee Dam, when her father found work as a security guard at Grand Coulee Dam. She graduated from Coulee Dam High School in 1957, and married Chet Berg in 1958. For the next 13 years, they lived in various places from Creston to Wilbur and immediate surroundings. After spending the early years raising her three children, she began a 28 year career as a bookkeeper for Graingrowers in Wilbur, where she processed thousands of loads of harvested wheat every summer.
She married Charles Dyer in July 1972, and enjoyed a variety of adventures over nearly 52 years together, including camping, snowmobiling, and traveling the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia. They loved being members of a motorcycle “gang” from Wilbur, and traveled the better portion of the American west on their Honda Goldwing with this group of dear friends.
Sandy and Chuck became snowbirds after retirement, rotating with the seasons between Needles, California, and Wilbur. They also enjoyed many camping adventures in the Republic/Curlew area. A favorite activity was participating in many parades in the Pacific Northwest as members of the Spokane Model T Club.
Sandy felt privileged to volunteer at Wilbur Grade School, deeply caring for several special needs children. She also cleaned houses and worked part time for her son Charlie at the Wilbur Department Store. Another passion was her sewing and her many craft projects, featured at various craft fairs in Lincoln County. Sandy loved cooking and became somewhat famous locally for her humongous cinnamon rolls.
As much as she loved all the adventures, Sandy‘s greatest joy was her family, especially getting everyone together on holidays. She loved playing pranks on her family, but seemed to particularly enjoy targeting her husband Chuck and her son Charlie. Her beautiful smile, generous heart, and boundless love will be deeply missed.
Sandy is survived by her husband Charles Dyer of Wilbur, Washington, her children, Charmaine Berg of Spokane and Chuck (Charlie) Berg (Lori Pierce) of Wilbur, stepdaughter Jocelyn Hemenway of Medical Lake, grandsons Adam (Jessica) Berg of Deer Park, Colton Berg (Akaycia Foster) of Spokane, Dane (Brittney) Berg of Spokane, Dakota Berg (Natalia Mandros) of Syracuse, NY, two stepgrandsons Don (Bridget) Hemenway of Spokane, Charlie (Brittany) Hemenway of Spokane, and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Cliff (Jana) Berg, and her stepdaughter Charlene (John) Tuininga.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Washington at 11:00 am on Friday June 21st. Food and further celebration of Sandy's life will follow immediately after at the Big Bend Golf and Country Club in Wilbur, Washington. Details can also be found on Strate's website.
