ELIZABETH MAUD HORNISH, age 74, of Decatur, Alabama passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024. VISITATION will be on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church located at 1700 Carridale St SW, Decatur, AL 35601. The CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE will begin at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-Decatur with Rev. Aaron Kretschmar officiating. SHE WILL BE LAID TO REST at Decatur City Cemetery.
ELIZABETH “BETH” HORNISH was a Senior Systems Analyst & Developer in Computer Technology for many years at NCR in Atlanta, GA – and she made her own way in a man’s world. Beth loved being a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Decatur and loved listening to hymns. She was an amazing historian, who researched & detailed the Hornish family tree, recently helped partner detailing the history of the church, and also taught children confirmation class, as well as the adult Bible class. Beth was an accomplished artist, enjoyed painting and fabric art, and knitting and quilting, often gifting her nieces and nephews hats and slippers. She also loved reading, had a great sense of humor, and served the church & community as a member and officer in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), River City Knitters Guild, and more.
ELIZABETH HORNISH IS SURVIVED BY brother Timothy P. Hornish of Pittsburgh, PA; two sisters Sarah R. Malmi of Harwood Heights, IL, and Jeanine H. Rakow of Memphis, TN; and 12 nieces and nephews. SHE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH by father Rev. Arthur H. Hornish formerly of Pittsburgh, PA and mother Beatrice Sivley Hornish of Decatur, AL; brother Charles Arthur Hornish of Irvine, Orange County, CA; sister Beatrice R. Hornish of Nashville, TN; and brother Mark Henry Hornish formerly of Sutton, WV.
