Michael Arthur Karp, known to his friends as Mike, passed away on May 12, 2024, in East Northport, New York. Born on February 9, 1932 to Loretta Karp and Alexander Karp, Mike was a lifelong resident of the Northport area and a pillar of the community he so dearly loved.
Mike graduated from Northport High School and Syracuse University. He furthered his studies at Stony Brook University. His career as a businessman was marked by running the family hardware store, Karp's Hardware, which was famous for excellent customer service, expert advice, and stocking everything needed to complete a project.
Mike was a firm believer in giving back to the community and was a member of a number of civic organizations including the East Northport Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Huntington Environmental Open Space & Park Fund Review Advisory Committee. Mike was a proud veteran and later in life he joined the American Legion.
Mike’s hobbies were rich and varied. He was an avid fisherman, a talented painter, and loved the language, culture, and cuisine of France where he and his wife Barbara owned a second home and have many friends.
Mike's memory will be forever held in the hearts of his surviving family: his wife Barbara; his children Katie, Amy, and David; his stepchildren Gail, Alan Talman and Lori; and his grandchildren Joshua Hawkins, Carly Zeh and Lee Talman.
A funeral service will be held on May 14, 2023, at 1:00 pm at IJ Morris, located at 21 East Deer Park Rd. in Dix Hills, New York. Following the service, Mike will be laid to rest at Mt. Ararat Cemetery in Lindenh
